Yesterday Mr S reported that Robert Halfon was due to give a talk to young Tory activists on Wednesday — less than two weeks after he confessed to an affair with a… young Tory activist. The Minister without Portfolio went public over his brief affair with Alexandra Paterson, the chair of Conservative Future, after claiming that Mark Clarke — the Tatler Tory currently facing allegations of blackmail and bullying (which Clarke denies) — had planned to film him leaving a hotel with her as part of a blackmail plot.
While Steerpike has no doubt that Halfon — who has earned the nickname ‘red hot Rob’ as a result of his antics — would have been on his best behaviour on meeting young Tories this time around, it appears he has thought better of it. Halfon has cancelled his appearance at a King’s College London Conservative Society event in Parliament, where he was due to give an address. Organisers have informed attendees that the talk is off as Halfon is now ‘unable to attend’, adding that they hope to reschedule the event for January.
