Owen Jones has been on a mission of late – a mission to unseat Tories. The Guardian columnist has been taking his campaign to key Labour target seats. Only despite the Guardian columnist’s best efforts, Labour have had a rather underwhelming night in the local elections.
So, in order to help with future planning, Mr S thought it might be helpful to examine the varying degrees of success* when it comes to Jones’s campaign work:
- Owen Jones visited Kensington
Tory HOLD
Owen Jones campaigned in Kensington where Labour had high hopes of making gains and perhaps even taking control of the council. This would have been the crown jewel in their campaign. Alas it wasn’t to be, there was only one Tory loss despite the Tory council coming under heavy criticism for the handling of Grenfell.
- Owen Jones visited Westminster
Tory HOLD
Owen Jones campaigned in Westminster – a council Labour hoped to take control of. Only it didn’t work out like that and the Tories held it.
- Owen Jones visited Wandsworth
Tory HOLD
Owen Jones campaigned in Wandsworth where Labour had high hopes to take control. Alas, his presence was not enough and the Tories maintain control.
- Owen Jones visited Barnet
Tory GAIN
Owen Jones campaigned in Barnet where Labour were hoping to take control of the council. Only they didn’t and the Tories actually went one further and took control.

Yet rather curiously Mr S couldn’t help but notice that in Plymouth where Labour won big…
5. Owen Jones did not visit Plymouth
Labour GAIN
Jones had to cancel his ‘Unseat Plymouth Tory Council’ event on Facebook – yet somehow Labour still took Plymouth council…
What??? Owen?! You can’t just cancel a first date like this.. you could have at least called. 😢 pic.twitter.com/ptDFUmyJHD
